Setup PIDGIN


PIDGIN is a windows based Instant Messenger client, capable of communicating to many different IM Servers on the market. 3F LLC uses the eJabber server, which PIDGIN calls XMPP Protocol. The following brief tutorial steps you through the installation and configuration of PIDGIN so you can communicate over our network.

  • NOTE Someone at 3F must create an account for you first. This is not open to the general public, only to our staff and paying customers.

Getting PIDGIN

First, visit: http://www.pidgin.im/ ... below are screen shots with descriptions of what you need to do:



Once on their site look on the left, you will need to click on:


  • When the following dialog box is displayed, you will want to click RUN.



  • Next, your web browser will download the installer:




  • Since the author did not "sign" his product certain versions of windows will display this Security Warning dialog, click RUN.



Installing the product


  • The first dialog allows you to pick your default language, in this case the default of English is correct, so click OK.



  • Now, you will see the normal installation screen which briefly describes the product. Click Next.



  • Simply click Next for the License agreement dialog.



  • Simply click Next for the Choose components dialog.



  • Simply click Next for the Choose install location dialog.



  • Simply click Next for the 2nd Choose install location dialog.



  • Wait while this dialog installs the required libraries for the product. The shot below shows where it will appear to hang for a few seconds, then it will continue.



  • Simply click Next for the Installation complete dialog.



  • Now the product has finished installing on your machine. Do not click next yet!.



  • Check the Run Pidgin option, then click Finished.



Setting up your account


  • The welcome screen is next, click Add.



  • The following is what an empty New Account screen looks like.



  • Change AIM to XMPP. Then enter in the credentials we supplied you with. In this case, we are showing what one of our manager's accounts looks like:



  • Now, click on the Advanced tab and enter the following information.



  • Your proxy screen should look like this. Default.



  • Click Add, and you should see the following dialog. If so, close it.



  • If you have entered your credentials correctly, you should not see something like this:



If everything is okay, you are ready to add your contacts, and start communicating with people in your organization.
